You won’t believe how much easier it is to take your cat to the Vet

Planning is Key

  • 3-4 days before appointment, bring out the carrier so the cat can familiarize itself
  • Best carriers are hard sided with multiple points of entry; top entry is also helpful
  • Do not put more than one cat into a carrier to avoid stress fighting
  • Make It Familiar & Comfortable
  • Place a favorite treat, blanket or toy within the carrier, but remove blanket before leaving if there’s a urinary issue
  • 1-2 hours prior to exam, spray carrier with feline pheromone (Feliway) to reduce stress (Feliway spray and/or wipes can be purchased at the clinic)

Minimize Stimulus

  • Place thin blanket or towel on carrier to minimize visual stimuli
  • Maintain a calm and quiet environment prior to and during transport. Comfort in soft tone of voice during process.
  • Strap carrier with a seat belt in the car to minimize movement
  • Upon arrival, keep towel on until you get into exam room
  • If your cat is stressed, keep them in the carrier until just before their examination
